Lindsay's Law is an Ohio law designed to help protect youth athletes from sudden cardiac arrest.
Parents, guardians and youth athletes participating in YMCA sports are required to review information about sudden cardiac arrest and acknowledge that they have received and reviewed it.
Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating effectively, preventing blood from reaching the brain and other vital organs.
A youth athlete who faints or experiences syncope must be removed from participation and cannot return until evaluated and cleared in writing by an authorized health care professional.
Ohio law includes additional participation requirements when a youth athlete's biological parent, sibling or child has previously experienced sudden cardiac arrest. The athlete must be evaluated and cleared by an authorized physician before participating.
An athlete removed or restricted under Lindsay's Law may return only after being evaluated and receiving written clearance from an authorized health care professional as specified by Ohio law
